Creative February 2025
It’s hard to believe it’s February again, the past year went by so quickly! Clearly, I have not been keeping up with the blogging. Life has become quite busy, but all in good ways.
This annual project is now on its fourth year and I honestly don’t know where it’s going to go this year. I have a trip planned in the midst of it, which may yield some images for the project to be posted later in the month.
My goal this year with it is to keep all of the constraints the same, but open up my editing options to include both Lightroom and Photoshop due to their image management capabilities. I had been just using LR Mobile for editing in this project, but it was limiting my options. I will probably still end up using that, but opening it up to a more expansive set of tools could be helpful.
An additional change will be the camera. I had been using the iPhone 13 Pro the previous three years, but this year I will be using the more powerful iPhone 16 Pro. I doubt any changes will be obvious in this work, but there may be. The biggest change will probably just be my personal evolution as an artist, but we will see there too.
The constraints I will be imposing upon myself to direct this creative journey are that each image will be taken during February, each will be monochrome in a square format, each will will be taken with a cell-phone camera, and each will be processed with standard photography tools. By that I mean, with minimal alteration to the initial image as it was recorded. I’ll discuss the benefits of constraints in creative workflow in a separate post
To learn more about my workflow and the Creative February project as a whole, please take a look at my earlier blog posts.
I am honored to announce that this project has also been published in the February 2025 edition of OnLandscape, a tremendous journal in the world of nature photography. You can read the article here: https://www.onlandscape.co.uk/2025/01/reflecting-on-february/ Thank you, OnLandscape, for the opportunity to bring this to a much wider audience.
Good luck to you on your creative journey in February! I’d love to hear your thoughts on all this and updates on how it’s going / went for you in the comments below!
One last note, my images from last year can be seen in my blog for 2024.
