Autumn in the Midst.

Hints of Autumn and the transition that is coming veiled within a late fall rain.

From the Fall of 2023 in the Adirondack foothills. And yes, I got thoroughly soaked, camera gear and all, but it was well worth the effort!

“Autumn in the midst.”

Autumn Impressions (ed.1)

“Autumn Impressions.” is my representation of some of the beautiful Autumn days I have spent in these Northeastern forests. Autumn tends to be a wetter season and so I invariably find myself out in it challenging conditions. This day was no different, a stiff breeze was making the colorful tree branches sway in the wind. Larger trunks seemingly unmoved by it all. The wet weather in turn also helps to saturate the colors with its indirect light.

When I see this image it reminds me of it all, the last vestiges of warm weather and show before the resting time of Winter sets in.

This quiet, colorful rendition of Autumn is available as a limited edition of only 25 prints total and can be custom sized to fit your space. It looks fabulous in a living space as a traditional matted print on photo rag paper or as a direct metal print in matte, as shown below. I adore the casual yet refined lightly stained wood edge frame on this piece.

From $750, please contact me for your custom quote!

Peony.

“Peony.” is my first exploration of this subject and I am so pleased with the initial results. This edition of 20 prints is a highly detailed image that also approaches an abstraction as you fade from the center. It’s carefully printed in matte on either metal or canvas and can be scaled to a size which fits your space. Here, it is shown at 36” x 36” in satin white solid wood framing. I draw from multiple inspirations in this image, particularly the work of Georgia O’Keefe.

Seaside Light.

An abstract coastal scene that captures that special midday light that can illuminate water to varying shades of blue and green. Yellow inclusions were derived from low tide sand bars in the distance. To answer the most common question, yes it’s a photograph. And no, the effect was all created in camera as I moved it during the exposure. Seaside light is a special print and has a lot of painterly qualities on close viewing. Printed as either a direct print on aluminum or canvas. Traditional paper prints are also available.

Luzerne.

“Luzerne.” is the latest addition to my ongoing exploration of the Adirondack woodlands is a recognition of the Winter season, its quiet beauty, its simplicity, its bounty, its shape and form, its lines, and its role in balancing the seasonality that shapes and pushes everything both the living and inorganic.

As you look closer at it, more deeply, you’ll see repetition of patterns and the overall theme or themes will emerge for you. It’s open your interpretation, it means what you want it to mean and see.

“Luzerne.” is calm, silent, delicate, understated, but present.

Vernal dance.

The struggle between seasons at transition has always fascinated me. The first snow of the Winter. The first ice. The first thunderstorm. The first flowers poking through the forest floor. Nature always seems impatient, pushing in when the other is not ready to let go yet. Or that’s just me, a reflection of my unwillingness to embrace the inevitable.

This morning not far from my home was a great example of this struggle. Trees in full bloom just yards downslope from a mid-Spring snowstorm. The contrast was so amazingly obvious, almost as if the two seasons were wrestling or dancing with each other

Aspen dreams

“Aspen dreams.”
Quaking aspen and paper birch along a forest edge blended in a single long exposure. This dreamy view is so calming, it brings a very peaceful vibe to any room. The first edition of 20 is printed at 32x48 as a direct print on recycled aluminum. Its matt finish produces minimal surface glare for thorough enjoyment in most lighting conditions.

Creative February 2022

Over the course of the month of February I joined the #CreativeFebruary initiative spear-headed by Takeyce Walter. Each day I was challenged to produce one new image inspired by the Adirondack Wilderness which surrounds my home studio. As a further constraint, each image was taken and processed using the iPhone 13 Pro as a 1:1 monochrome. The images were taken on several days but largely follow the progression of the month. Prints are always available, please just inquire.

 vernal dendrites.

An exploration of the abstract forms created by Spring reflections off Adirondack waters. Monochromatic in nature but green in its overall essence, a feel characterized by the early-spring colors of the Adirondacks. There is something unique to be found in all six images. Of note some actually include mayflies drifting across the water surface.

These limited-editions of 20 are surprisingly versatile as prints and can be done as museum-grade fine art acrylic, direct prints on metal or even as art-grade canvas. Custom framing or frame-free options are available. Send inquires to jrodewald@naturessakephoto.com for a personal quote.
